In May 2006, Borderless World Volunteers engaged in its first-ever
international community development project. A group of three
students travelled to western India to launch a variety of initial
projects. During the month-long trip, the volunteers collaborated
with a highly experienced development worker based in Pune to
conduct an education assessment of Maharashtra and Gujarat where
she had done extensive work in the past and remains well connected.
In addition to the extensive tour and education assessment of
western India, the group instituted a microcredit project, rural
agricultural extension project and a career learning seminar. This
maiden project has already impacted at-need individuals, cultivated
a plethora of important development contacts and opened the door
for future participation by the organization.
