Borderless World Volunteers empowers its members to lead and partake in development projects throughout the world. The International Development Committee is designed to enable volunteers to research and select the development projects they wish to conduct, and thereafter implement these projects on the ground, where they strive to make a long-lasting impact by working with local grassroots organisations serving the unique needs of their communities. By ensuring that volunteers take part in the generation, verification, assessment, and application of their own projects, Borderless World Volunteers strives to develop the leadership of its volunteers. Borderless World Volunteers has conducted development projects in Africa, Asia, and South America. These projects have involved initiatives in several sectors including health, education, environmental sustainability, female empowerment, governance and human rights.
In 2011-2012, BWV has decided to embark on a project focused on education and health in the Volta region of Ghana! In the first part of the year, our diligent volunteers undertook careful, detailed research on development projects. This summer, We will be sending six of our brilliant volunteers (Diana Famintsyna, Renaud Comba, Fabien Daudier, Alice Escande, and Noémie Knebelmann) to work with the Volta Aid Foundation, a NGO that believes in community development, empowerment, and education. Prior to their arrival, the volunteers have been discussing ways in which they can maximize their impact on the ground. This includes identifying their individual interests, strengths, and skill-sets. Our leadership training workshops target these issues, and prepare the volunteers for an entirely different culture and environment. Moreover, utilizing available resources on campus, BWV will look to find innovative ways to contribute to the NGO. Finally, communication is made with the NGO to present to them some of our ideas and hear their feedback. This has truly been an exciting year for IDC, and all of us are looking forward to the summer to hear of the volunteers' experiences abroad!
